Casting Blog Revive

Yes, this blog will be back on track. The main blog Deathmarked.info was still having problem with the bandwidth spam which I am still continuously seeking for a concrete fix. The site has again reached its bandwidth limit for the month so I might just wait again for January for the hosting to reset it. During the Magic2014 Prerelease in Bacolod

Hi all, how is it going? I do hope you're all well. This is just a quick update of this blog. As for my recent blog posts, you can check them at Deathmarked.info which at the moment had bandwidth limit problems. I am not sure what the cause but I'm trying to get the site up asap. In the worst case, I just would have to wait until December 1 for the reset. We'll see how it goes.

5 Color Control Domination in Iloilo

Hi guys, this is just an update of Iloilo Mtg community tournaments. The remaining two weeks of Lorwyn Standard here in Iloilo was dominated by Mark Anthony Co's 5-color control. Tonton, known to master the deck and has been using it for a months now, got back to back first place in the two previous weekly tournaments. His previous achievement was when he placed second in the Standard segment of MTG Philippine Open 2009 in Glorietta last July.

Playing the Pauper Magic

Our MTG community had finally decided to have a pauper Magic tournament this last week or rather last Saturday of January. For those who aren't familiar, Pauper Magic is the game format in which only the common cards are legal. Which means we go to the cheap fun version and utilize common cards that we aren't using in our Standard tournaments. No rares and uncommons this time so we had to brainstorm again for deck tech and ideas.

Currently, the team Eversun had listed decks for Kithkins (mono-white), U/B Midrange, U/G Tempo and Sligh (mono-red). They have been undergoing test play to finalize the list. So far, the decks that are dominating are Kithkins and the U/G.

Just tonight, I've found a site (thanks Google) that's dedicated to Pauper Magic. Pdcmagic.com is a online community site that holds Pauper Magic deck challenges and events. It is a good source for Pauper Magic decklists and deck ideas. I'm thinking of joining there. Let's see if it fits to my sked.

Saturday Adventure at Guimaras

It’s a bit late to post this one and the cause is that I'm freakin’ busy at work. Anyways, I better write this one before I suffer memory erosion.

Last Saturday, the team decided to go on a vacation trip to Guimaras Adventure Park to celebrate Ibos' (Eaves) birthday. I went there with lack of sleep coz I went to Smallville the night before (its Friday you know. Hehe) but the fun had really kept me awake. We did rappelling and damn, the experience is truly exhilarating. It was actually my first time to do that and I’m very proud I was able to go down the whole 30 feet. Wooot! I finally conquered my fear of heights. Haha! Anyways, after that we had lunch and played paintball. And yeah, that was a lot of fun too although my body was hurting after that due to a lot of hits from the other team. Lol!

A Glance of "The Mark Ian Show"

I have been doing some "video coverage" of our local tournaments for my segment "The Mark Ian Show" at our Magic The Gathering Iloilo community site. This is made possible thanks to my friend, officemate and Magic Iloilo's official maniniyot JayR, who owns the cam and does the video editing.

The show is actually our version of Evan Erwin's (if you are a mtg player then I'm sure you are familiar with him) famous "The Magic Show", less budgeted, less effects and less talk. The latest so far is episode three wherein I covered the finals (Elves mirror match) last Nov. 8 between Oliver and Mao.

Hey guys! I'm happy to say that we are making great progress in building the new look for our Magic: the Gathering Iloilo community website, MagicIloilo.com. Thanks to the efforts of the Master Mao, we had agreed that each player will contribute an article and update the site daily. Its just like the local version of Magicthegathering.com. Hehehe...

To give you a glimpse of what the daily segments are, here they are. For Mondays, it will be tournament reports of Saturday's winner and picks of pics. Tuesday will be featured articles to be written by guest writers. Wednesdays, we will have budgets decks and Limited tips and tricks while on Thursdays we will have Extended and Type 1 articles. Fridays will be metagame breakdown for the week.

Also stay tuned for our considered to be the best article (lol), "Adventures of El Magikero" where we will be discussing the life and happenings of this particular Magic player. Hehehe... I wonder who he is. Lol...

Mtg Iloilo October 4 Standard Tournament

Yesterday, we had our first post rotation Standard tournament. My predictions regarding the kithkin decks were proven. Five players piloted Kithkins. Wow, that was the highest number since we had our Lorwyn block tournaments. I decided to go against the flow and played RDW, the last minute version. Lol… That was a hard decision but that was I preferred rather than being uncomfortable with piloting a different deck and for the fact that we were lacking Stillmoon Cavaliers and other sideboard components. I substituted the blood knights, magi of the scroll, Skreds and other Time Spiral components with cards that were available that time.

The tournament had 14 participants and the metagame breakdown was obviously tribal: 5 Kithkins, 3 Merfolk, 2 Demigod Red, 2 Oreo (Black White) Beatdown, 1 Elves and a lone Faeries. The final top 4 had three Kithkins and a Fae. Ironically, that lone Faerie deck ruled us all. Lol… I went 2-2, winning against a Merfolk and an Elf deck and losing, as expected, to two Kithkins. I lost but had a great fight against the little white men. I realized how fun it is to pilot a last minute deck and I’m happy with the record.

My next stop on deck building is the black red version of Demigod red and possibly an anti Kithkin build. Hehe… My compo choices so far from Shards are Blightning and Infest. I hope I can come up with a decklist early this week and do some playtests.

It's a bit late to post this one but who cares. Lol... Last Thursday, we held a draft at MSIS to practice our Nats qualifier, Rei and Patrick. It was a Shadowmoor/Shadowmoor/Eventide draft. Here's some of the pics taken by my friend Gian who took the rule of the maniniyot that time.

I finished third place with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss to my friend Oliver, which ended up as the winner and got the privilege of the first pick in the Eventide pile. The event was somewhat short but we enjoyed, had fun and learned alot from it. I hope we can held another draft this month. Hehehe...

Rei's Preparation for the Nats: Day One

Yesterday, Rei told me about his plan to playtest the matchup of his deck with my RDW list so we've decided to schedule the playtest this afternoon right after the office hours of our day shift Mtg buddies. We met up at MSIS, our local gathering place on weekdays, at around five pm.

After hearing the news that the Red deck piloted by Micheal Jacobs dominated the US Nats, we've decided to test the deck with a slight difference on the lands (not snow-covered) and substituted Shock for Skred. I piloted the red deck and Rei used his version of Black-Green Elves that he used in Regionals with no changes whatsoever.

We had several games and we've noticed the effectiveness of his Eyeblight's Ending against my Demigods and Ashenmoor Gougers. Still, the Elves seemed to be no match as the RDW had won more games. After the games, we noted several tweaking options for the Elves as well as for the RDW.

Rei, still feeling undecided on the deck, said that we playtest more tomorrow and call it a day.

Last Saturday, Mtg Iloilo held its first Eventide-legal Lorwyn Block Constructed tournament. It was also the first time that the tournament was held again in Gaisano City, thanks to our friends from CD Magic shop. Although only ten players have participated, everybody was excited (especially me) to try the new cards the Eventide set has offered. I was very happy that time because my order of Eventide cards has arrived before the tournament so I was able to utilize those cards on my Kithkin deck. Tournament Report: July 19 Lorwyn Block Constructed

July 19, the last Saturday our Mtg tournament was held before Eventide becomes legal. We decided the format to be LBC (Lorwyn Block Constructed) in preparation of Team Iloilo for the upcoming GP Manila in August.

The sad part is that I have no components for the block version of my RDW deck. I contacted my friend and fellow player Gian if he has cards available for the list I've created. Luckily, he will play a different deck that time so all of his red and black card components are available. I gave him the list of the cards that I will borrow and he gladly brought that cards on the tournament day. Btw, here is the list that I've played. It is a Black-Red midrange control deck that is popular on the recent PTQ in the United States.

I forgot to borrow 2 Reflecting Pools so I just substituted it into two Swamps. Also, I couldn't find a fourth Fulminator Mage so I stick with a Puppeteer Clique.

I thought I'll gonna get a winning streak again after round 2 but my game 3 with Ramon seems like a disaster. I was stuck at three lands with one red mana source while he just went into turn 4 and turn 5 Colossus and these two went all the way. Sigh.

A 2-2 record for a first timer on the deck is not bad but I won't take it as an excuse. At least now I know how the deck works. Now all I have to do is get some tweaking on the main list and the sideboard. Our meta here seemed a bit slow so a little adjustment of the speed of the deck is needed. The Fulminator Mage was mostly my MVP in the games that I've won. I guess he deserves a slot in the main deck.

As for the coming of Eventide, I'm thinking of the option of going into mono red with Stigma Lashers and Figures of Destiny as the new addition in the deck. We'll see if that works so stay tuned next week peeps as I put this into action. For now, I'll do some playtesting on the new build. I hope I could get some time to do that.

Taking a break after a long multi-tasking of keyword analysis and searching for Joomla 1.5 templates, I've browsed upon a post of one of my contacts in Multiply. It was the episode two video of the 300 spoof made last year by a fellow Ilonggo, Talibong1. It was a very funny spoof that he made. I wonder why he'd stopped doing spoof movies. I hope he can come up with another one this year. Btw, here is that video. It is entitled "Benjo kag ang batalyon pitbull". Check it out. Why Magic: The Gathering is Better than Sex

I got this funny post from a friend in our Magic Iloilo site forum. It points out the reasons why playing Magic: The Gathering is better than sex. Here are the reasons:
