The Magic of "The Gathering"

While at work reading some tutorial lessons on effective blogging and browsing the PPC forums subscribed by my client, I was listening to the songs from the band called "The Gathering" and it seems that I can't get my ears off the headset. The sweet theatrical voice coupled with gothic metal guitars at the background has allured me. For those who aren't familiar, The Gathering is a Dutch band which came to fame in the early 1990s. Their music are mostly gothic metal themed, like the bands Theater of Tragedy and Elis.

I used to listen to this band before but I lost my copy of their songs when my workstation was changed. Luckily, I was able to find a site for free downloads of their albums and got myself some songs which I missed or has never heard yet. Sorry, I'm not into piracy but I just can't find their album in the local store so the Web is the last resort.

Anyways, as I was listening to the songs from their latest album release "Home" (2006), I decided to look for the latest news of the band. I was saddened to know that the woman behind that beautiful voice of their songs, Anneke van Giersbergen, had decided to leave the band to go into a new project/band named Agua de Annique. Oh well, just like most of the bands today. I hope her new group can still produce those same music as The Gathering.

They have several songs that I like and the video below is one of them. This is the live performance of the song "Strange Machines" from the album Mandylion. I can't find the original music video and I bet there's none yet since the song was released way back in 1995. If you are a fan of gothic metal music then I'm sure you'll love this one. Check it out.

*thanks to Wikipedia for the band's info.

Hottest Rap Music Video Source on the Web

I admit I'm an avid listener of rap and hip-hop music. It all started when we went to our local party place and dance with friends in the disco. Its maybe because of the bouncing tunes and beats that you can dance with or maybe because of the hot girls dancing in their music videos. I also watch these videos on the Internet whenever I get bored at home or at work. The good thing is I have found this site, Rapartists.com, where you can find the latest hip-hop and rap videos. This site also has an archive of rap lyrics where you can get to sing with your favorite rap songs, features on the top 10 rap artists, upcoming rap albums and other cool stuff that you need to know about rap and hip-hop music. So check out their site now.

Money money money by Abba (Metal Version)

Its been a while (almost 3 months) since I've posted about rock and metal bands. The influence of going to party places could be the big reason. Lol... This time, I'll post a cover song from Abba. This is a metal version of their song "Money money money" and is performed by the German Power Metal/Neoclassical metal band At Vance. Here's the vid.

I’ve discovered this vid while watching MTV Asia’s The Playlist. Check it out. A very nice and headbanging version made by Lillasyster.

The Agonist

I’ve been a fan of metal bands and I like those that have female vocalists. Who would expect such beauty that can do both clean singing and death metal screams and growls. That sounds pretty cool..

I’ve visited the site of Century Media Records, whom most metal bands have signed for their music, and I came across this band which call themselves The Agonist (formerly known as The Tempest). They are composed of Alissa White-Gluz as the vocalist, guitarist Danny Marino, bassist Chris Kells, and drummer Simon McKay. They are from Montreal, Canada and have released their first album, Once Only Imagined, last August 2007. Their music are both catchy and heavy (which sounded like Arch Enemy for me) and their song’s themes are about moral concerns, societal dilemmas, and the state of our world (pretty cool for a metalcore band).

You can check out their official site, http://www.theagonist.net/

Here’s their music video for the song “Business Suits and Combat Boots” from their album Once Only Imagined.
